WE ARE POWER PLANTS

Power Plants started as three friends who met at University and had a slight obsession with houseplants.  After realising that all of our loved houseplants were imported, we knew that there had to be a company out there that sells only UK grown houseplants.

Well after much searching, we decided to grow our own!

Here at Power Plants, we are dedicated to sustainability and being as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our plants are home grown by Sarah, the founder of the company, right here in Liverpool. We offer a growing selection of flora, most of which have been cuttings from personal collections.

Our wonderful cyanotype range has been designed and produced in Wavertree by Harriet, who joined the company in 2023. She uses foraged wild flowers and cutting from several species of plants to create bespoke pieces of art. Her aim is to provide a body of work that allows customers to purchase not only their favourite species of plant but also a cyanotype print to match.

OUR ECO-FRIENDLY PROMISES

Here at Power Plants Liverpool, we are dedicated to being as environmentally friendly as possible in an effort to make houseplants sustainable.

Many houseplants are imported into the UK, meaning they have an unnecessarily large carbon footprint.

We grow our plants from scratch from cuttings of our parent plants. We also have created the Power to the People program which allows other houseplant enthusiasts to send us plant cuttings for a percentage of the sale of the eventual plant. We've done this so we can offer a wide variety of plants whilst keeping true to our eco-friendly promises, as well as giving power back to the people in our grassroots effort.

We also only ever use recycled or repurposed plant pots. All of our nursery pots are different shapes, sizes and colours and this is because we only use up-cycled or donated pots in an effort to prevent unnecessary plastic purchases.

We have also gone to great lengths to ensure our shipping process is as eco-friendly as possible. We use repurposed boxes with recyclable brown paper and tape, making all the packaging for our orders recyclable!

COMMUNITY

At Power Plants, another one of our values is Community.

Here in Liverpool there are many small businesses, us being one of them! We do our best to support other small business, purchasing supplies from them as opposed to large chain stores or online.

We also believe in community led initiatives, hence our Power to the People program. By involving others in the houseplant community in our company, we hope to give back to the community that allows us to do what we love every day. We would also rather put back into our local communities as opposed to into outsourcing!

We also aim to feature small, independent UK based artists via selling their art work, beautifully painted pots, hand crafted macrame and more.

MEET THE TEAM

Harriet Stones

Cyanotype Designer

When I lived with Sarah during university, it is fair to say that keeping plants were not my forte. Her infectious love for them though, eventually rubbed off, and now three years later, here I am as co business owner.

There are still plenty plant mishaps though, which involve Sarah rescuing my own plants and restoring them back to heath.

I decided to give cyanotype printing ago when I could't find the art that I wanted to go on my own walls. I bought a little starter kit and the rest, as they say is history.
